Lizzo was a part of a prog rock band in which she sang as well as occasionally played her flute. Her family had moved to Denver which left Lizzo by herself to start her professional career in Houston. Lizzo lived in her car and sometimes slept on the floors of her studio, and washed at the gym. Lizzo's father passed away when she was only twenty-one years old. They were close, and it was a sad loss. She left the prog-rock band in 2010, after her father's passing. Lizzo was able to return to Denver after an infrequent stay in Denver she moved to Minneapolis in the year 2011 following the request by a friend. In the next few months, she was part of Minneapolis' music scene. She performed with girls' groups Chalice and GRRRL PRTY. Her debut album Lizzobangers was released in 2013 by an independent label.
